Save for Robbie Appeal

"Save for Robbie Appeal - We raised £2055!"

Five year old Robbie Davies suffered a bleed on his brain when he was born nine weeks prematurely, causing a condition known as diplegia cerebral palsy which means the muscles in his legs do not work properly. ALL little Robbie Davies wants to do is kick a football with his brother, but so far the five-year-old has spent most of his life in a wheelchair.

A few months ago it was discovered that a £40,000 operation in America could help this little boy to achieve his dream. The life-changing operation at St Louis Hospital in Missouri, which is not available in the UK, will target nerves in Robbie's spine which could allow his muscles to move normally. The £40,000 will be used to pay for the operation, flights, accommodation and three weeks of physiotherapy.

On Monday 13th December Steve Hale Goalkeeping School held its very own "Save for Robbie Appeal" event which proved a great success.

29 goalkeepers took part in a sponsored penalty shoot out and in just over two hours 580 penalties were taken in total with 284 of them being saved!

On the same evening a raffle was also held with all four Swindon Town Goalkeepers Dave Lucas, Phil Smith, Jakub Jesionkowski and Mark Scott kindly donating their own match-worn signed goalkeeping gloves.

There was also a Swindon Town shirt signed by the first team squad which was auctioned off to also raise money.

The event was a huge success and has raised a fantastic sum of £2055.00 towards the appeal for young Robbie Davies.

Steve Hale said

"It has been a fantastic effort by all the young goalkeepers and their parents both on a bitterly cold night and also in organising and collecting their monies in. I'd like to particularly thank my assistant James Whitlock, Mr & Mrs Strange and Mr Mathews for their help on the night with all the logistics. I'd also like to thank Swindon Town FC for the signed shirt which we auctioned off and Dave, Phil, Jakub and Mark for donating their gloves for the raffle. It was great to see little Robbie's smiling face on the evening and I hope the money we have raised will help towards the cost of a very important operation. I am very proud of everybody's efforts"
