When Ryan Griffiths signed up to become the latest member of our goalkeeping school little did he realise he would feature in the history of Steve Hale Goalkeeping School
Ryan became the 500th goalkeeper who has been coached with us, something we are extremely proud of and he was rewarded with a free pair of SHG Goalkeeping Gloves
Owner and Head Coach, Steve Hale had this to say:
"When I started out back in 2007 we started out firstly with a two day course at the old Raychem Club and we had a good attendance on a boiling hot weekend. Then we used a small hard astroturf pitch and Ruskin School with just myself and one helper and a few goalkeepers.
I never knew back then that we would be going into our 17th season and 500 different goalkeepers would pass through our coaching school!! It's amazing really and certainly makes me feel old now!
For example one of our original goalkeepers, Dan Lawrence who was a regular for a long period of time, told me recently that he's working, has a mortgage and a baby on the way!! It makes me proud to think we played a small part in not just his football journey but hopefully in his life in general as we preach good values and behaviours.
I have no thoughts of packing up yet and long may we continue trying to help young goalkeepers in the area enjoy the game and particularly the wonderful position of being a goalkeeper"
