Two Day Course May 2010

Two Day Goalkeeping Course 2010

Group-1Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd May saw the latest Two day course take place at the Corinium Stadium, home of Zamaretto Premier League side Cirencester Town in what were tropical conditions!

19 boys and 1 girl took part in two days of goalkeeping coaching covering general handling, shot-stopping, one v ones, dealing with crosses and distribution and were very lucky to be put through their paces not only by Steve but also by Swindon Town professional goalkeeper Mark Scott and Jamie Stephens who recently signed for Liverpool from Swindon Town.

Steve, Mark and Jamie worked all of the children hard but there was plenty of fun for all over the two days and at the end of each day all goalkeepers got the chance to use their skills in the "goalkeeper wars" tournament.

Misc-12At the end of the two days the children were even more fortunate to get a visit from Swindon Town first team goalkeeper Dave Lucas, who took time out of his preparations for the League One Play off final at Wembley to spend 20 minutes answering questions from children and parents and then handing out the trophies and certificates. Dave then spent some time signing autographs and posing for pictures much to the delight of all in attendance.

Steve said of the weekend:

"It was a fantastic weekend and could not of gone any better, the facilities and weather were superb and I have to give great credit to Scotty and Jimma who were superb with the kids from start to finish. Also I really appreciated Dave taking time out on his day off from Swindon duties to make an appearance for me. It was great to see all the kids smiling faces over the weekend and their behaviour and attitude was a credit to their parents and I hope I get to see them again in the future."

There were two age groups in the "goalkeeper wars" tournament with Joe Smith winning the 7-9yr old category and Bradley James winning the 10-15yr old category. The "Best Attitude" award went to Mark Whitehead and the "Top Keeper" award went to local Cirencester goalkeeper Toby Twinning.

A couple of the parents commented:

"Thanks so much for past two days. Joe LOVED IT! You really do a cracking job of helping the kids really understand the importance and fun attached to the goalie role. Joe loved the celebrity visit and I think it has given him something to aspire too ( I did wonder if he would ever stop asking questions!) Joe will definitely be up for any other courses you do in the future. Many thanks to you and all the coaches"

"Hi Steve firstly thanks for a great weekend I know Jack thoroughly enjoyed it. I could also see how professional the whole thing was so well done, it was also great to see Dave Lucas and hear that he is fit for Saturday. Thanks for organising that."
